EXAMPLES OF RADIATION THERAPY

Mastocytoma:

  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT for tumors G2 and G3 in stage I, II and III after resection with free margins.
  • Post-surgical/curative complementary adjuvant RT for cancer of any grade in stage I, II, III after excision with margins involved as an alternative to surgical radicalization.
  • Curative RT for tumors of any grade in areas hardly reached surgically.
  • Adjuvant /palliative RT for cancer in stage IV.

Squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC):

  • Curative RT as an alternative to surgery for lesions in areas hardly reached surgically or with deep involvement (stage III and IV).
  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT after excision with margins involved.
  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT after excision with free but limited margins.

Soft tissue sarcomas:

  • Post-surgical/curative complementary adjuvant RT for the marginal resection with limb salvage.
  • Postoperative adjuvant RT for marginal excision in areas that preclude the en bloc resection or with limited margins.
  • Intraoperative adjuvant RT.

Bone tumors:

  • Fractionated stereotactic RT for limb salvage as an alternative to salvage surgery.
  • Intra-and postoperative adjuvant RT.
  • Palliative analgesic RT.

Nasal tumors:

  • Curative RT for carcinomas and sarcomas.
  • Curative RT followed by possible adjuvant surgery for carcinomas and sarcomas.
  • Curative RT and chemotherapy in cases of lymphoma.

Oral and joint tumors:

  • Curative RT for ameloblastoma ex-epulis acantomatosa as an alternative to excision with ostectomy or intralesional chemotherapy.
  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT for excision with free but limited margins.
  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT for neoplasms with pericanalare invasion of the outer ear or middle/inner ear with bone invasion.

Thyroid tumors:

  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT of extracapsular adenocarcinoma.

Adrenal tumors:

  • Radiosurgery in patients at high surgical risk or with invasion of the vena cava.

Perianal tumors:

  • Post-surgical adjuvant RT for perianal breast cancer and adenocarcinoma.

Testicular tumors:

  • Curative RT and chemotherapy of lymph node metastases.

Metastasis:

  • Radiosurgery of metastatic cancer.
  • Palliative analgesic RT.

Neuro-oncology:

  • Radiosurgery of brain and spinal meningioma.
  • Radiosurgery of pituitary macroadenoma.
  • Radiosurgery of peripheral nerve sheath tumor.
  • Fractionated stereotactic RT of brainstem glioma.
  • Adjuvant RT of spinal tumor.
